There’s nothing wrong with my current Apple Watch Series 6, but it’s time for a change. What I really want is more of the same that my 6 currently offers, and apparently, that’s what Apple is planning to provide. A leaker claims that the Apple Watch 7 will come in larger 41mm and 45mm case sizes. This would replace the 40mm and 44mm options on the Apple Watch Series 6. The report claims that current bands for 40mm and 44mm Apple Watches will still work with the newer Series 7 models.
Time Flies
It seems like only yesterday that Apple released the Series 6 with its groundbreaking blend of health features and snappy performance. But it’s actually been nearly a year since the Series 6 emerged, and that’s a long time in the tech world with other manufacturers racing to provide more smartwatch functions and new designs. It seems like Apple will keep up with the competition. According to one recent report, the Apple Watch Series 7 will offer a new design similar to the squared-off edges of the iPhone 12 lineup and other current Apple computers. The Series 7 also will be 1.7mm thinner than its predecessor, the report says. As much as I like my current Series 6, I’m excited to see exactly what Apple has in store with these purported design changes. I love the health and notification features that the Apple Watch offers, but its design has never been a selling point for me. I’ve always found the Apple Watch design to be on the bland side, unlike the many shapes and sizes offered by smartwatches running Google’s Wear OS. A slimmer, more rectangular shape for the new Apple Watch could be precisely the changes that will keep me loyal to the brand. A larger Apple Watch also could open a world of possibilities in terms of what the device is capable of. In the years since Apple first released the Apple Watch, it’s transformed from a gadget that primarily was useful for seeing notifications from your phone to its current iteration as halfway toward being a whole computer on your wrist. With more screen space, developers could have room to include extra functions that will make it unnecessary to carry an iPhone with you, especially if you opt for a cellular data plan for your watch. You may not have long to wait to find out what Apple has in store for the Watch 7. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who has a good track record of predicting Apple releases, claims in his newsletter that Apple will be releasing the Watch 7 in September along with a slew of MacBook Pro and iPhone upgrades.
Apple Watch Alternatives
If you’re not sure whether Apple is the right fit for you, there are plenty of new smartwatches on the market. Keep in mind that no other smartwatch except Apple offers an operating system fully optimized to work with iOS. So, if you’re an iPhone user, you might be better off sticking with an Apple product. Android users, however, have a wide variety of smartwatch choices in all shapes and sizes. The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, for example, has a lot of health tracking features and a bright screen. The Watch 5 also has, to my eyes, a much nicer-looking round design with lots of fun watch faces you can download. Fossil is reportedly also about to release a bunch of new smartwatch models in a variety of stylish shapes. The new lineup will be Fossil’s first smartwatches with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus processor, which should make for a snappier experience. I’m waiting for the Apple Watch Series 7. I’ve invested too much in the Apple ecosystem to transition to another brand at this point. Plus, I have faith that Apple will reveal some exciting new features for the Series 7.
